Why glass furnaces use molybdenum
In an electric or gas-electric boosted glass furnace, current passes through the molten glass itself, and molybdenum electrodes are what deliver it. Molybdenum is chosen because it stays solid and strong far above the glass melt temperature, resists attack by molten glass, and does not discolour the product.

Choosing an electrode
Diameter is matched to the current load and tank size; common sizes run from around 25 mm up to 90 mm and larger. Higher purity (99.95%) reduces the risk of colouring the glass. Send us your furnace power and tank details and we will recommend a size.
